At the September 3 Alameda Writers Group Meeting in Glendale, producer/writer Julie Marsh and author/screenwriter Steven-Elliot Altman discuss how writers can succeed in books, film, TV, comics, and other media. For the 9th Annual Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, over 450 films from 28 different countries will be presented at ArcLight Cinemas, from September 6-12. This year, Grammys On The Hill honorees include Gloria Estefan, the Honorable Lamar Alexander (R-TN), the Honorable Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and the music department of Danville High School of Arkansas, when the program including reception and silent auction is presented September 7 in Washington, DC. A Jazz Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York, will induct 12 jazz greats during its second annual induction ceremony on September 8. During the 6th Annual Americana Music Conference, from September 8-10 in Nashville, an all-star "house band" led by Buddy Miller participates in several performances. The 30th Annual Toronto International Film Festival showcases a balance of Canadian and non-English language films and U.S. studio productions. The Recording Academy presents the Missouri Demo Review and Contest for unsigned acts of any genre at its September 9 talent showcase in St. Louis. The Austin Film Society presents 20 films from director Tarantino's personal collection - hosted by Tarantino - featuring theme nights like Spaghetti Westerns and Old School Kung Fu, September 9-17 in Austin. 3 Continents Human Rights Fest opening September 9 in Cape Town, presents socially relevant and appropriate films that "explore the linkages between social struggles, respect for fundamental rights and the recognition of personal dignity and community empowerment." At the West Coast Songwriters Conference, attendees can participate in lyric reviews, song screenings, performance showcases, seminars, one-on-one consultations, and a sunset concert. Now in its second year, the New York Musical Theatre Festival offers a glimpse of the next generation of modern musical entertainment to producers, artists and audiences, when it opens September 12 in New York. The CMJ Music Marathon (and Film Fest), running September 14-17 in New York, has nightly performances at clubs throughout the city, and celebrates film and music with the CMJ FilmFest. From September 15-25, Helsinki Film Festival offers an eclectic theme oriented festival entitled "Love and Anarchy".
