| The International Film and TV Finance Summit gets underway February 5 for three days in Los Angeles and among other things offers perspective on the growing role of Hedge Funds and institutional investors in global film finance. "Animex Awards Animation and Gaming Festival," February 5-9 in Middlesbrough, focuses on the best of British animation from the past and present, in addition to Animex International Student Animation Awards, previews of animated feature films and a two-day celebration of computer games, Animex Game. At the ASCAP Song Source Music Feedback Session, February 7 in Nashville, participants can receive feedback and discussion of their work. Rupert Murdoch and Barry Diller are keynote speakers at this year's Digital Hollywood Media Summit in New York on February 7 and 8, covering the full range of entertainment delivery systems. At the Berlinale - Berlin International Film Festival approximately 350 films, mostly European premieres, are screened and this year talented young people from around the world involved in all areas of filmmaking are eligible to apply to the Berlinale Talent Campus. MusiCares, the financial assistance program, which assists musicians and others in times of financial, medical and personal need, honors BMI songwriter Don Henley at a February 9 gala dinner in Los Angeles, two days prior to the 49th Annual Grammy Awards. Tina Fey, writer and executive producer of the NBC comedy "30 Rock" hosts the 59th Annual Writers Guild of America Awards on February 11, at which Lorne Michaels, creator and executive producer of "Saturday Night Live," will get the Herb Sargent Award for comedy in addition to other nominees. The 49th Grammy Awards, this year based in Los Angeles, will be telecast live over the CBS television network February 11 starting at 5 pm PST, and hosted by Stephen Colbert. A BMI Industry Insider Panel investigates the topic, "Music in Film: Soundtracks in 2007" with Karen Lamberton, VP, Soundtracks and Film & TV Music, RCA Music Group; Gillian Morris, Senior VP, Film & Television Music/Licensing, Wind-Up Records and others, February 13 in New York. The monthly Wildsound Feedback Film Festival in Toronto on February 14 hosts film screenings before an audience of film lovers with a special guest moderator who discusses each film with the audience, and new works read by actors each month. NACA National Convention, hosted by the National Association for Campus Activities from February 17-21 in Nashville, provides networking opportunities with other professionals, students and associate members, and the opportunity to view more than 80 live showcase performances. The 20th Annual American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography will be held February 18 in Century City and presents nominees including Emmanuel Lubezki, ASC, AMC, (Children of Men), Dean Semler, ASC, ACS (Apocalypto), and Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC (The Black Dahlia) among others for Outstanding Achievement Awards for feature films released in 2006. The Folk Alliance Music Conference based in Memphis opens February 21, a pre-conference day, featuring special advanced workshops in songwriting, recording techniques, internet opportunities and more, in addition to regular conference offerings like the Performance Alley showcases running through February 25. Three days of international and local short films, feature films, animation, and filmmakers surprises will begin in Beaufort February 22, but to top it off, Chefs of the regional South present culinary treats, part of the Beaufort Film Festival and Tribute to the Great Chefs of the South. Ellen DeGeneres has been selected to host the 79th Academy Awards telecast over the ABC TV network from Hollywood, and an exhibition of 50 Golden Statuettes is on view at Hollywood & Highland Center, February 9-24. Grammy award winning country music legend Kenny Rogers will be featured entertainment at the Golden Mike Award in honor of Kenneth W. Lowe and The E.W. Scripps Company February 26 in New York. In Aspen, the HBO Comedy Arts Festival kicks off February 28 continuing through March 4, accessible via several types of passes and packages that also provides access to the many festival parties hosted throughout. On the heels of the UNESCO Honourable Mention for Peace Education award, the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival set to run February 28 through March 8 in Prague will host over 50 discussions of various foreign, political, human-rights, civil society and ecological themes in conjunction with the festival.
